Dear young people, youth ministers and collaborators,

On March 12, 2020, in conjunction with the Quebec government’s requirement to cancel all events of 250 people or more, the Catholic Bishops of Quebec have asked that we contribute to the common public-health effort and to act in solidarity with the civil authorities.

  • This means that World Youth Day Montreal on April 4th 2020 has been cancelled.
  • The event and its associated gatherings (practices, planning meetings, etc.), will no longer take place as foreseen.

Please note that this is being done for precautionary reasons and to slow down the spread of this disease so that the public health system is not overwhelmed.

  • We are looking at alternative ways to celebrate World Youth Day in Montreal.
  • The Holy Spirit is creative and we are confident that what we have planned together can be used at future events, so please be ready for us to call upon you again!

We have been blessed to journey with young people from different parishes, movements and communities as we dreamed together towards World Youth Day 2020.

Even though the event will not happen as planned, we are confident that the joy, fellowship, and communion with which we have collaborated are fruits of the Holy Spirit.

We are incredibly grateful to each and every volunteer and their communities who have worked hard, spending many hours, days, weeks, and even months dedicating their gifts, talents, and time towards this project.

Dear young people, know that you were in our thoughts and prayers at each step of the planning process. Our greatest desire is that you may develop and deepen your personal relationship with Christ.

Please be assured of our prayers and continue praying for each other.
