The service is called SASMAD\/PHC <\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN-CA\">(Service d\u2019accompagnement spirituel des personnes malades ou \u00e2g\u00e9es \u00e0 domicile)<\/span><\/i><i><span lang=\"EN-CA\"> <\/span><\/i><i><span>and is known in English as Pastoral Home Care. This diocesan service is confidential, free of charge and is made available thanks to the hundreds of volunteers who have received special training in carrying out these visits. Spiritual accompaniment means first and foremost the volunteers\u2019 loving presence offered freely and unconditionally for each person they visit. Thanks to this open attitude of mind and heart, a positive climate is established, allowing a quality of relationship and involvement to develop through SASMAD\/PHC accompaniment.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\"><\/span><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><span lang=\"EN-CA\">The essential factor in SASMAD\/PHC accompaniment is that it takes place in the homes of the persons being accompanied &#8211; where they live. Getting on the road to go visit a person at home or in a residence is in itself an act of love. Meditating on the needs of the person we are about to accompany while en route becomes an integral part of the accompaniment process.
