Compassion as a synodal exercise of healing
Earlier this week, the Vatican published Pope Francis’ message for the 31st World Day of the Sick, celebrated each year on 11 February, the liturgical memorial of Our Lady of Lourdes. The Holy Father’s message is entitled: “Take care of him” – Compassion as a synodal exercise of healing. In the light of the Church’s synodal journey, Pope Francis invites us “to reflect on the fact that it is precisely through the experience of fragility and illness that we can learn to walk together according to God’s style of closeness, compassion and tenderness.

As every year, PHC / SASMAD organises a time of prayer with the possibility of receiving the sacraments of forgiveness and the anointing of the sick for those who wish to do so, as well as a mass presided over by Mgr Christian Lépine.
Come and join us on February 11 février from 9.30 am for a day of prayer and celebration for and with the sick.

Life to promote this
World Day.
The CCCB Office for Family and Life has gathered and developed some resources to promote the World Day. A Google Drive folder is now available to support communications in your diocese/parish.A Google Drive folder is now available to support communications in your diocese/parish, including, the Holy Father’s message, a video on the experience of accompanying a loved one through palliative care, graphics for social media and prayers for families and parishes.
The World Day of the Sick resonates well with the recent CCCB publication on palliative care entitled Horizons of Hope which highlights the Compassionate Community approach. It may be a good opportunity to encourage the faithful to discover this program at the local level.
